Award for Wrongful Death Against Kaiser Permanente
After a seven day Arbitration Hearing, Tim Hamilton obtained an award of $1,677,649.15 for a widow and her 12 year old son. The decedent husband and father was a 49 year old licensed psychologist who became ill during the week of January 2, 2017. His symptoms became much worse on January 5. He communicated with his doctors at Kaiser via phone and email. He was seen by his Primary Care Physician (PCP) in the morning of January 6 with fever, significantly elevated heart rate and severe ear ache. Rather than immediately refer the patient to the emergency department for a work-up for potential systemic infection, the doctor simply sent him home with oral antibiotics. The patient died at his home the following morning. The cause of death was meningitis.
